AKRON, Ohio — Gas prices have dropped across Northeast Ohio within the last week.

Drivers in Akron are now paying an average of $3.36 per gallon after prices fell 16 cents according to new data released by GasBuddy early Monday.

Cleveland’s gas prices dipped 11.9 cents, bringing the city’s average down to $3.39. This drop puts Cleveland’s prices 10.6 cents cheaper than a month ago and 20.9 cents lower than a year ago.

The national average is now listed at $3.37 per gallon after dropping 4.2 cents within the last week. GasBuddy says that’s down 11.4 cents from a month ago and 47.8 cents lower than a year ago.

"Gasoline and diesel prices continue to trail off across much of the country as summer demand fades away,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "Lower demand in other oil-consuming nations is also helping to lead the downward pressure on pump prices as we approach Labor Day. With little new action in the Middle East to rile up prices and Hurricane Ernesto remaining far out at sea, it looks like the downward trend could continue into the week ahead. As more schools begin to resume, gasoline demand will likely continue to ease. With the transition to winter gasoline less than a month away for the majority of the nation, gas prices will soon begin their seasonal cooling off -- just as temperatures soon will as well."
