AKRON, Ohio — The average price for a gallon of gas has now dropped below $3 per gallon in Akron -- and Cleveland’s prices aren’t far behind.
It comes as GasBuddy reports another dip in gas prices throughout Northeast Ohio within the last week, which includes a drop of 12.6 cents per gallon in Akron. That brings the city's average to $2.91.
Cleveland, meanwhile, is down 10 cents per gallon when compared to last week as the city’s new average is now listed at $3.01. For some added context, that puts Cleveland’s average 18.9 cents lower than a month ago and 35 cents cheaper than a year ago.

The national average now stands at $3.21 per gallon after prices dipped 5.8 cents.
"With the national average price of gasoline declining for the 10th straight week, motorists are enjoying the longest downward trend at the pump since the summer of 2022,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “The timing couldn't be better as Americans head into the holidays, leaving them with more in their wallets at a time of year many start to spend on gifts for loved ones. In addition, gasoline demand continues to be dragged lower as Americans stay inside more often, helping to put continued downward pressure on gasoline prices. However, we're carefully monitoring OPEC's delayed meeting, set to occur this week, for potential surprises that could eventually mean an end to lower gas prices should they make any surprise oil production cuts."
