Gas prices jump 20 cents in Akron, 8 cents in Cleveland: Here's what GasBuddy wants drivers to know

'With the switch back to winter gasoline less than two weeks away, we could eventually see more downward pressure on gas prices,' says Patrick De Haan of GasBuddy.

AKRON, Ohio — Gas prices are on the rise once again across Northeast Ohio.

GasBuddy says prices in Akron have jumped 20 cents per gallon within the last week, bringing the city’s average to $3.59.

In Cleveland, the average now stands at $3.60 per gallon after climbing 8.6 cents. That puts Cleveland’s prices 13.8 cents higher than a month ago and 1.5 cents lower than a year ago.

The national average, meanwhile, is listed at $3.77 per gallon after GasBuddy says prices fell 1.2 cents since last week.

"The national average fell to its lowest level since July ahead of Labor Day, even as oil prices rose last week to the highest level since last November,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “In addition, Hurricane Idalia steered well clear of significant energy infrastructure, leading to zero impact to gas prices. With the switch back to winter gasoline less than two weeks away, we could eventually see more downward pressure on gas prices. However, any disturbances that threaten the Gulf could delay any decline between now and then, creating a bit of a bumpy ride for the next week or two before more relief arrives toward late September."
