CLEVELAND — Did you ever think you would see gas prices this low again in your lifetime?
Well, it's happening.
Prices listed on GasBuddy.com show a handful of stations in the Cleveland area selling gas for less than $1.20 per gallon. The cheapest price listed is $1.06 for a gallon of regular at Speedy Gas at 13601 Lorain Ave. That price was reported around 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
The cheapest price we found in the Akron area as of 10 a.m. was $1.29, while Canton’s lowest cost is currently listed at $1.36, according to GasBuddy.com.
“Gas prices have spent virtually all of March marching lower, with the drop continuing as the coronavirus destroys oil demand globally, leading to the lowest oil prices we’ve seen in 18 years,” Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, said in a statement earlier this week.
As of Monday, GasBuddy officials say more than one in four gas stations nationally had prices at less than $2 per gallon.
DeHaan suggests motorists should wait to fill up if possible because “they’re wasting their money as prices will continue to drop in the days ahead."
Last week, GasBuddy officials announced the first gas station to drop to 99 cents per gallon in the U.S. was in London, Kentucky.
