MEDINA COUNTY, Ohio — The Medina Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol has provided more information about the fatal early morning crash on I-71 North in Medina County on Thursday morning.
The crash happened at approximately 2:40 a.m. at I-71 mile post 224 in Brunswick Hills between the Route 3 and Route 303 interchanges. Troopers say a Honda Accord driven by 44-year-old Joan Erb of Medina was stopped on the shoulder of the highway.
A Peterbilt box truck was heading northbound on I-71 and struck the Accord. Once the Peterbilt came to rest, it was struck by another box truck that was also going north.
Erb was pronounced dead at the scene by Brunswick Hills Township EMS. Both truck drivers were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says all of the drivers in the incident were wearing safety belts. Also, drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
While the two right lanes between Route 3 and Route 303 were closed for several hours early Thursday morning, the Ohio Department of Transportation reported that all lanes reopened shortly after 8 a.m.
