Route 8 northbound reopens after closing due to flooding

The closing was the result of unsafe high water conditions.

State Route 8 is reopen after closing due to unsafe high water conditions on the roadway caused by Monday's storms. 

Several areas of the highway was closed for several hours. Rt. 8 northbound was closed from Perkins St to E. Tallmade Ave. According to a traffic advisory, vehicles were still able to exit at Perkins St northbound. during the closure.

The conditions caused traffic accidents and delays. Those using Rt. 8 northbound have been asked to use extreme caution.

"Please reduce speed and maintain safe distances," a release from the Akron Police Department sent out on Monday afternoon reads. 

In addition to the closure of a portion of Rt. 8 and power outages throughout the area, Monday's storms have resulted in Flash Flood Warnings in the following counties until at least 6:29 p.m.:

  • Summit
  • Geauga
  • Medina
  • Cuyahoga
  • Lorain

Additionally, Cleveland Police have asked drivers to avoid Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. due to flooding, while the National Weather Service has advised that those in Cleveland stay home if possible due to unsafe driving conditions.
