CLEVELAND — The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has announced that work has been completed on the U.S. Route 422 (Kinsman Rd.) at E. 93rd St. intersection safety improvement project in Cleveland.

The intersection was identified as one of the 150 most dangerous in Ohio by ODOT in 2019 following a directive by Gov. Mike DeWine.

A safety study found 114 crashes in the Kinsman-E. 93rd Street intersection over a three-year period with 38% of those crashes resulting in injuries.

The $2.4 million project, which began in October 2021 and was completed by Terrace Construction Company Inc., added left turn lanes from all four corners of the intersection, completed minor widening work, and upgraded traffic signals.

“I’m confident that these new turn lanes will make a difference at this intersection, resulting in fewer crashes and injuries,” said DeWine in a statement. “Making travel safer for motorists across Ohio is, and will continue to be, a top priority of my administration.”

When the construction season began in April, ODOT District 12's (Cuyahoga-Lake-Geauga counties) Mike Kubek announced that the Kinsman/E. 93rd Street intersection was one of three from DeWine's list of the 150 most dangerous that would be part of the district's $3.4 million safety expenditure for 2022.

Earlier this month, DeWine and ODOT Director Dr. Jack Marchbanks announced details of a $121 million program of traffic safety projects across the state.

A key part of the investment is the installation of approximately two dozen roundabouts in numerous counties across the state, including several in Northeast Ohio.
