SYLVANIA, Ohio — Dashcam video released by the Toledo post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) shows a vehicle striking a state trooper patrol car and fleeing the scene early Friday morning.
At approximately 1:33 a.m., an OSHP vehicle was stopped on the left shoulder of the ramp from U.S. Route 23 southbound to eastbound I-475 in Sylvania. Troopers were on the scene of a previous crash when the collision occurred. At the time of the incident, the patrol car had its emergency lights activated.
According to a press release from OSHP, the video shows Trooper Nicholas J. Konrad from OSHP Toledo post standing near the patrol car when a "black or dark-colored" pick-up truck sideswiped the right side of his patrol car. The pick-up truck failed to stop and continued eastbound on I-475.
Video shows Konrad jumping over the guardrail during the crash. According to OSHP, he suffered minor injuries to his hands and arms.
OSHP is seeking assistance from the public to help identify the driver of the pick-up truck, which is believed to have damage on the left side of the vehicle. They ask anyone with information related to the driver or the current location of the vehicle to call the Toledo Post at 419-865-5544.
As of Monday afternoon, the driver has not yet been identified or located.
In the press release, OSHP also reminded motorists to use caution when approaching or driving near vehicles with flashing lights.
