What is that building floating in the middle of Lake Erie?
Typically you cannot see across the lake.
A viewer in Huron sent WKYC a photo of what appears to be a building across Lake Erie. But where is that building actually located?
Earth is curved, meaning the lake drops below the horizon. Seeing across the lake is like trying to look over a hill of water.
But every so often, an inversion occurs, meaning warm air sits above the cool air. In the right conditions, light, radio or TV waves can bounce off the inversion and bounce back toward the ground. The result? You could see directly across the lake from Cleveland to Ontario, Canada.
