CLEVELAND — We got another Drought Monitor update and it finally shows some improvement. The cutoff for this update was 8 a.m. Tuesday. This takes into account six out seven days with at least a trace of rain at Cleveland Hopkins. There was a total of .94” at the airport factored into the update. That’s actually the most water we’ve had for an update period since April!

The new map finally shows some improvement for some of Northeast Ohio. Lorain County and southeast Huron County are now mostly out of the “Abnormally Dry” category. “Moderate Drought” had improved for areas of Cuyahoga, Lorain, Ashland, Wayne, Summit, Trumbull, and Portage counties. It was eliminated completely for Richland and Stark Counties.

This update does NOT factor in the rain that fell around here on Tuesday. That totaled .29” at Hopkins, with locally higher totals for many areas. All of that rain, plus any we pick up from the remnants of Debby Thursday and Friday, will be reflected in next week’s update.
