CLEVELAND — It's that time of year where the threat for frost arrives some mornings as temperatures dip into the 30s overnight. We are expecting frost to develop Friday night into Saturday morning, especially for inland locations. This will affect and possibly damage sensitive plants. If you love it, cover it! This is not a widespread killing freeze.
IS THIS FROST EARLY?
Technically we may be about a week early for a widespread frost for a few of us compared to specific averages, but generally once October arrives, this is completely normal for NE Ohio.
Average First Frost:
- Cleveland -- Oct 14th (frost not as likely tonight near the lake)
- Akron / Canton -- Oct 7th
- Mansfield -- Oct 1st
Earliest Frost On Record:
- Cleveland -- Sept 21st (1973)
- Akron / Canton -- Sept 14th (1902)
- Mansfield -- Aug 27th (1946)
