CLEVELAND — As a heat wave takes over Northeast Ohio, several counties are being affected by a Heat Advisory.
Heat index values on Wednesday are expected to reach up to 102 degrees in some parts of Northeast Ohio.
The National Weather Service issued a heat warning that will remain in effect until 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
Here are the counties impacted by the Heat Advisory:
- Erie County
- Huron County
- Ottawa County
- Sandusky County
- Seneca County
"Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening," advises the National Weather Service.
Due to such high temperatures, officials also warn of potential medical emergencies.
"Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 911."
After Wednesday, the heat wave is expected to continue in Northeast Ohio as Thursday will be hot and humid, with temperatures reaching the upper 80s.
