CLEVELAND — Swimmers along Lake Erie beaches in Northeast Ohio are being warned to stay out of the water through early this afternoon amid “high swim risk due to potential for rip currents.”
The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a Beach Hazards Statement that’s in effect until 4 p.m. Tuesday for beaches in Cuyahoga, Lake and Ashtabula counties.
“Wind and wave action will cause currents on the lakeshore,” according to the National Weather Service. “Swimmers should not enter the water. Currents can carry swimmers away from the shore through a sand bar and along structures extending out into the lake.”
Waves of two to five feet are expected.
“Waves will be greater than four feet in the open waters and in the nearshore waters east of Cleveland,” according to the National Weather Service.
The winds are expected to diminish from west to east this afternoon.
