NWS issues Flood Warning in Stark, Summit counties; Flash Flood Warning in central Portage County;

The NWS said 1-2 inches of rain have already fallen in some areas and that thunderstorms producing additional heavy rainfall are expected.

CLEVELAND — The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning in Stark and Summit counties until 6 p.m. as storms and heavy rains are indicated to impact the area. 

A Flash Flood Warning went in effect at 11 a.m. Saturday for central Stark County and southeastern Summit County and was later replaced by the Flood Warning. The NWS said 2-4 inches of rain have already fallen.

"Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas" is possible, the NWS says. 

The NWS the river gauge along Zimber Ditch at North Canton is reporting a stage of 10.3 feet, near the threshold for moderate flooding, with the creek still rising.

The NWS said some cities that will experience flash flooding include Canton, Massillon, Green, North Canton, Meyers Lake, Hills And Dales, Greentown, Perry Heights and Uniontown. 

A Flash Flood Warning is also in effect in central Portage County, covering locations such as Ravenna and Edinburg, until 4 p.m. 

Thousands of visitors are in Canton this weekend for Saturday's Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony.

The NWS noted most flood deaths occur in vehicles and urged safety. 

"Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads," the warning concluded.
