Ohio State Highway Patrol responds to over 70 crashes in Northeast Ohio during lake effect snow event

Some of the instances were single-vehicle crashes, while others were multi-vehicle crashes, involving up to 13 vehicles.

CLEVELAND — The Ohio State Highway Patrol has released the number of crashes that they handled in Northeast Ohio following Tuesday's lake effect snow event.

OSHP officials tell 3News that they responded to 73 crashes in the region. Some of the crashes were single-vehicle crashes, while others were multi-vehicle crashes, which involved upwards of 13 vehicles. 

Below is the breakdown of how many crashes each Ohio State Highway Patrol post responded to: 

  • Elyria Post – 15
  • Cleveland Post – 1
  • Medina Post – 1
  • Ashland Post – 1
  • Wooster Post – 2
  • Akron Post – 7
  • Canton Post – 6
  • Chardon Post – 11
  • Ashtabula Post – 6
  • Hiram Post – 4
  • Ravenna Post – 2
  • Warren Post – 9
  • Canfield Post – 5
  • Lisbon Post – 4

Ohio State Highway Patrol told 3News on Tuesday that a crash happened on I-271 North near Wheatley Road at milepost 11, which involved 13 vehicles, including three commercial vehicles. No life-threatening injuries were reported. Additionally, troopers also responded to a crash involving 10 vehicles at milepost 11 on I-271 North.

The National Weather Service in Cleveland shared preliminary snowfall reports from Tuesday's event. South Madison received the most snow with 13.3 inches being recorded.
