Average Temperatures for July

CLEVELAND — The numbers are in as we wrap up the month of July. For Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, it was the first “average” month in quite some time for temperatures.

The final average temperature came to 74.5° when rounded, which is the same as the historical average for the whole month. The last 7 months have all been at least 1.7° above average. December was even 7.7° above average. November was actually the last time we were near/below average, at 0.6° below average. August of 2023 was the last month that was over 1° below average (-2.3°).

Wednesday, July 31 was actually the warmest day of the month with a high of 93°. That brings us to three 90° days for July and 10 so far this year. Nine is the average number of 90° days for Cleveland, so we are likely to be well over that this year with all of August and September still to come.

Hottest Day of July

Average lows run in the 60s for July. Thanks to a combination of clear skies and drier air, we managed seven nights in the 50s.

As for precipitation … any guesses? Monday’s rainfall of 1.07” certainly helped. That was the rainiest day of the month and our highest daily total since October. It probably won’t be a surprise that we still came in 1.01” below average for the month as a whole. We’re still running 4.72” below average for the year. Most of that deficit has been the result of dry weather over the last three months.

More rain is in the forecast for the rest of the week and we do get an updated Drought Monitor on Thursday. Hopefully, there’s more help for those brown lawns in the days ahead.
