CLEVELAND — The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for portions of several Northeast Ohio counties, including some active rivers that have already exceeded maximum flood stage.
All of Carroll and Tuscarawas Counties are under the warning. Roughly three inches of rain have fallen in the area, and experts expect up to an additional inch. Areas such as Carrollton and New Philadelphia are expected to be hit hardest.
There is also a Flash Flood Warning for all of Carroll County and eastern Tuscarawas County until 1:00 a.m. on Sunday.
In addition, flooding is also occurring in and around the following rivers:
- Black River in Elyria: Water will rise to 11.2 feet (flood stage is 9.5 feet); minor flooding forecast, with some already on Foster Road in Penfield Township; expected to decrease by late Friday night
- Eagle Creek in Phalanx: Water currently at 9.7 feet (flood stage is 9.5 feet); minor flooding expected to occur, and Barclay Messerly Road, McConnell East, and Knwolton Road will be "impassable" at 11 feet; expected to decrease by Friday afternoon
- Killbuck Creek near Killbuck: Water will rise to 16.9 feet (flood stage is 15 feet); property on Water Street has already been flooded, and State Route 69 south and County Road 621 are "impassable"; portions of Wayne County also affected
The NWS is reminding people to avoid driving in flooded roadways ("Turn around, don't drown!"), as the water may be deeper than it appears. Stay with 3News for further updates on this situation throughout the day.
