PORT CLINTON, Ohio — The National Weather Service currently has Erie, Lucas, Ottawa, and Sandusky Counties under a lakeshore flood warning until 10 p.m. Sunday, and we're beginning to see why with images coming from the area.
In Port Clinton, residents are already seeing high water and potentially dangerous conditions. The local Fisherman's Warf shared a video of a convenience store surrounded by flooding.
The Port Clinton Police Department also shared footage of waves coming off the shore near Lakeshore Drive, with water crashing onto the road. Authorities say most northern streets in the downtown area have high water, but none have been closed at this time.
The Jackson Street Pier is also flooded.
The lake has apparently already reached its peak (if not slightly above it) of 70 inches, and officials expect it to keep hovering around there before falling later in the afternoon. Areas expected to be hit hardest include the stretch from Port Clinton to Vermilion as well as the Lake Erie Islands.
