Tornado warnings expire across Northeast Ohio

Cleveland, Elyria, and Oberlin were among the communities in the impact zone.

CLEVELAND — The National Weather Service has allowed a tornado warning for portions of Cuyahoga and Lorain counties to expire.

At 9:15 p.m., the NWS says a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Avon Lake moving northeast at 20 mph. Other communities expected to be in the storm's direct path included Lakewood, Westlake, and North Ridgeville.

"Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur," the NWS noted. "Tree damage is likely."

Earlier in the evening, multiple tornado warnings were issued for parts of Cuyahoga, Erie, Huron, Lorain counties, with Cleveland, Lorain, Elyria, and Oberlin among the communities impacted and quarter-sized hail possible. The latest alert expired at 9:15 p.m. before almost immediately being reissued.

Parts of Ottawa, Sandusky County, and Lucas counties were under a tornado warning in Northwest Ohio earlier this afternoon.
