CLEVELAND — In the midst of our Weather Impact Alert due to the excessive heat in Northeast Ohio, we also saw severe storms making their way through the region on Tuesday.
The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for several counties during the afternoon. Those severe storms brought winds as strong as 60 miles per hour, with hail and torrential rains.
In the aftermath of the storms, thousands of FirstEnergy customers were without power, particularly in Ashtabula and Lake counties. However, most had their services restored by late Tuesday night.
WEATHER IMPACT AFTER THE STORM
Heavy rains also caused flooding issues throughout the area.
In Cuyahoga County, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation, the I-90 eastbound ramps at Warren Road in Lakewood were closed due to flooding.
Meanwhile, the Madison Fire Department reports that three people were injured after a tree went into a one-story ranch house in the 1300 block of Erieview Drive at around 2:45 p.m. The house sustained "significant damage," while two women and one child suffered non-life-threatening injuries. All three were taken to area hospitals.
In Grafton, officials report that State Route 83 between Grafton Eastern and Route 82 is closed due to storm damage that includes downed wires and a fire.
Also, ODOT says SR 306 between Bainbridge Rd. and E. Washington is closed in Geauga County due to a fallen tree.
Tuesday's storm comes as Weather Impact Alert Days continue through Saturday, as several days of serious heat continue.
"We knew it was coming, but it is uncomfortably HOT. Heat and humidity will stick around for the rest of the week with the heat index near 100° each afternoon. Heat advisories will be in place through at least Friday," says 3News Meteorologist Jessica Van Meter.
