CLEVELAND — The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for central Lorain County until 12:15 a.m.
This comes after severe thunderstorms made their way through Northeast Ohio. Officials say up to 2 inches of rain have already fallen in the area around Elyria, with up to 1 1/2 more expected.
At 8:22 p.m., thunderstorms were first located along a line extending from near Wakeman to the area around Willard, moving northeast at 35 mph. This then led to Lorain, Cuyahoga, Geauga, and a number of other counties being placed under a severe thunderstorm warning.
Officials say the storm was capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts and penny quarter-sized hail. Minor damage to vehicles was possible, along with damage to trees and power lines.
According to the 3News Weather Team, we are in the middle of a Weather Impact Day out in front of us as a cold front approaches from the west and scattered storms are expected to fire up ahead of the front. Not everyone will see storms today, but those storms that do develop could be strong to severe. Otherwise, expect a mix of clouds and sunshine with a warm breeze pushing temps into the mid 80s.
