Thousands without power in Northeast Ohio after storms

FirstEnergy is reporting that several counties are experiencing significant power outages due to high winds and downed trees and lines.

CLEVELAND — After severe weather moved through Northeast Ohio on Thursday night, FirstEnergy is reporting that several counties are experiencing significant power outages due to high winds and downed trees and lines.

As of 11:30 a.m. Friday, more than 12,000 FirstEnergy customers are without power statewide. Here are the biggest impacts in Northeast Ohio:

  • Huron County - 2,666 outages
  • Sandusky County - 2,228 outages

In Erie County, lightning struck the Top Thrill Dragster as the severe weather was making its way through the area. Thanks to Mark Porterfield for this video. 

Meanwhile in Huron County, our Neil Fischer captured photos of downed trees.

Beyond Thursday night, the 3News weather team says areas of rain and drizzle are possible mainly early Friday before skies partially clear out during the afternoon and evening. Highs will be comfortable in the 70s. 

Looking ahead to Father's Day weekend, we look great! Lots of sunshine with high clouds from time to time can be expected. Highs will be seasonably in the 70s and low 80s.
