Severe Thunderstorm Warning, Tornado Watch in place for several Northeast Ohio counties

Most of Northeast Ohio is under a Tornado Watch through 9 p.m. this evening.

CLEVELAND — The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 8:30 p.m. this evening for the following counties and areas:

  • Cuyahoga County 
  • Medina County 
  • Northern Summit County 
  • Lorain County

At 7:24 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 12 miles north of Lorain to near North Ridgeville to near New London, moving northeast at 45 mph. 60 mph wind gusts are possible, as is quarter size hail.   Affected areas could see minor damage to vehicles, trees, and power lines.

Locations impacted include: Cleveland, Akron, Lorain, Elyria, Medina, Willowick, Vermilion,  Parma, Lakewood, Cuyahoga Falls, Euclid, Cleveland Heights, Strongsville, Brunswick, Westlake, North Royalton, North  Ridgeville, Kent, Solon and Avon Lake.

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for most of Northeast Ohio counties until 9 p.m. on Tuesday. 

The following counties are in the watch area:

  • Ashland
  • Carroll
  • Cuyahoga
  • Geauga
  • Holmes
  • Lorain
  • Medina
  • Portage
  • Richland
  • Stark
  • Summit
  • Trumbull
  • Tuscarawas
  • Wayne

Earlier this evening, the National Weather Service issued a Tornado Warning for most of Lorain County. That warning expired at 7:30 p.m. 

Also, a Tornado Warning for Erie and Huron counties was in effect until about 6:45 p.m. 

Locations impacted include Tiffin, Bellevue, Clyde, Willard, Green Springs, Bloomville, New  Riegel, Attica, Bettsville, Republic, Bascom and Flat Rock.

According to the 3News Weather Team, the chance for showers and storms will continue throughout this evening across Northeast Ohio. Some could be on the strong to severe side; however, the greatest chance for severe activity exists south of us. Heavy downpours and gusty winds look to be our primary threats if any.
