CLEVELAND — A developing low pressure system in the Southern Plains will move northeast along a frontal boundary on Friday and will bring rounds of heavy rain to northern Ohio.
"Our first round of rainfall will happen during much of the day on Friday with breezy conditions possible," according to the National Weather Service at Cleveland Hopkins Airport. Their forecast is calling for a near 100% chance of rain on Friday in the Cleveland area.
The good news is temperatures will be mild. Most areas in northeast Ohio will see highs in the mid 50s to possibly upper 50s on Friday. Saturday could push the temperatures in the 60s for some during the day.
More rounds of rain will move along the frontal boundary on late Friday night and into Saturday with forecast models showing the heaviest rain targeting northwest Ohio.
A FLOOD WATCH has been posted Friday evening through Saturday evening for Erie, Huron and Sandusky counties in the 3News viewing area. One to three inches of rain could fall over these areas.
The risk for flooding will be elevated, particularly in poor drainage areas, near creeks, streams and ditches, and in urban areas. Minor to moderate river flooding could develop this weekend. Any rainfall will quickly run off, which may lead to flooding.
A cold front will sweep across northern Ohio Saturday as the rain begins to transition over to scattered showers. Those showers will continue through Sunday morning before skies clear out sometime Sunday afternoon or evening.
