NWS issues Flood Watches throughout Northeast Ohio; Tornado watches cancelled

Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas, the NWS said.

CLEVELAND — The National Weather Service has issued several flood watches for Northeast Ohio as severe storms impact the region on Saturday.

A Flood Watch is in effect in Carroll and Tuscarawas counties until 2 a.m. Sunday. A Flood Watch is set to last through 8 p.m. in the following counties: 

  • Cuyahoga
  • Geauga
  • Holmes
  • Lake
  • Lorain
  • Medina
  • Portage
  • Stark 
  • Summit
  • Trumbull
  • Tuscarawas
  • Wayne

Here's the latest look at the forecast from 3News Meteorologist Anthony Copeland: 

The flood advisory issued for Ashtabula County was cancelled before the 5 p.m. estimated end time. 

Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas, the NWS said. Low-water crossings may be flooded. 

The NWS also issued a brief Tornado Warning for Ashtabula County that expired at 1:15 p.m. as the storm moved out of the area.

Rainfall throughout the region is expected to range between 1-2 inches, with amounts of 3 inches or higher possible in some local areas.

In addition to the heavy rain, the 3News weather team expects strong to severe storms to develop Saturday afternoon. Additional heavy rain, damaging winds, and even an isolated tornado could be possible.
