Winter Weather Advisory in effect for portions of Northeast Ohio: What you can expect

Be careful out there! Give yourself plenty of extra time as the roadways could be slick.

CLEVELAND — We're tracking some big weather changes that will bring impacts to Northeast Ohio for your Friday.

That's why the National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until 7 a.m. Saturday in the following counties:

  • Cuyahoga
  • Geauga
  • Lake
  • Lorain
  • Medina
  • Summit

“This is expected to pick up in intensity again throughout today," 3News meteorologist Hollie Strano said during her updated weather forecast early Friday morning. "The snow will be steadier, so it’s not going to just be limited to the morning drive. This is kind of like an all day story, which is what we were talking about yesterday. If you remember, we said you’re not going to wake up to like two feet of snow. This is going to be an evolving situation.”

Ashtabula County had been a part of the advisory, but it has since been removed.

So how much snow can you expect? While some spots could see 6+ inches, it's important to note that counties not included in the Winter Weather Advisory could still see some snow.

“As far as accumulation, the bullseye is still exactly what we anticipated, which is within the advisory area itself," Strano said. "So some areas could still pick up as much as a half a foot of snow by late day. That’s quite a bit. It’s over the course of the day, but it’s all about your planning.”

She said extra time is key because roadways are slick.

By 6 a.m. Friday, ODOT said there are nearly 540 crews working statewide.

"Be extra alert on bridges and overpasses this morning," ODOT tweeted.

But this round of snow won't last for long...

Although we stay cold through the weekend with highs only in the 30s, we're tracking another round of mild air for early next week with temperatures around 50 degrees once again.
