NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio — It’s being called “a new era” at Great Northern Mall as Phoenix Theatres has signed a long-term lease with plans to renovate and reopen the former Regal Cinemas in North Olmsted, which has been closed since last January.
“The 24-year-old independently owned movie theater company plans to invest $5 million to refurbish the 10-screen theater, creating a new premier moviegoing experience in the greater Cleveland area," according to a press release from Great Northern Mall.
So what's changing? Phoenix Theatres outlines the following amenities:
- Every seat in every auditorium will be a large loveseat-style (with adjustable middle armrest), fully reclining, heated chair with 75 inches of leg room.
- Specially formatted auditoriums featuring Dolby ATMOS for a premium, immersive, audio experience and 4K Christie Digital Projection.
- All 10 auditoriums will be equipped with premium Dolby Digital sound and Christie Digital Projection.
- Phoenix mobile app and online tickets that allow customers to reserve their seats easily.
- Self-serve Pepsi and butter stations for added service speed and convenience.
- Combined ticketing and concession purchases in one line.
Phoenix Theatres, a Michigan-based company, plans to reopen the Great Northern Mall location this summer. This marks the second Ohio location under the operation of Phoenix Theatres.
“We are thrilled that the big screen is coming back to North Olmsted,” said Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones. “Like many residents, I was disappointed when the theater first closed. Since that time, my administration has been working closely with mall ownership to ensure that the mall remains a thriving center for years to come.”
This announcement from Great Northern Mall comes after news surfaced earlier this month that new life is also coming to the former Cinemark 10 movie theater at Barrington Plaza in Aurora. Atlas Cinemas is stepping in to reopen that location this spring after undergoing renovations, which include the installation of high-back glider seats in every auditorium.
