MENTOR, Ohio — Hollywood is back in Northeast Ohio as a film production has taken over a portion of Mentor Headlands beach to create some movie magic in Lake County.
So what movie is this? While no official confirmation has been provided, we do know that a project currently labeled as “Genesis” -- which is widely believed to be the new Superman movie directed by James Gunn -- is slated to begin filming in our area very soon.
3News captured some footage from the beach Wednesday that shows tents and camera equipment.
We’ve also learned that downtown Cleveland will be included in the film’s production as the Greater Cleveland Partnership confirms that the movie will shoot in Public Square.
Back in April, Angela Boehm Casting said Cleveland “shoot dates” for the “Genesis” project were scheduled for June 17 to July 16. They also noted that filming will take place in Cincinnati from July 17-18.
IS "GENESIS" ACTUALLY "SUPERMAN"?
While speculation online has indicted for weeks that "Genesis" is the new Superman movie, those details have not been publicly confirmed.
3News previously asked the Greater Cleveland Film Commission if they could address the rumors, but the organization's president, Bill Garvey, said he couldn't disclose specifics surrounding the "Genesis" project.
Last year, meanwhile, Garvey also told 3News that "major movies" are bringing their productions to Cleveland.
“People are going to be happy,” he said back on Nov. 9. “Some iconic, major movies are coming.”
You can watch his comments from late last year in the video below:
While official details surrounding the “Genesis” project have not been released, the Ohio Department of Development announced earlier this year that the film has been awarded with a tax credit worth $11,091,686.70.
In case you were wondering, the new Superman is currently slated for release on July 11, 2025.
Cleveland previously hosted multiple superhero productions, including The Avengers and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
