CLEVELAND — Can't attend The Cleveland Orchestra's concerts at Severance Music Center in person? You still have an opportunity to experience the sounds of one of America's finest orchestras live from home through TCO's digital streaming service, Adella.
The Cleveland Orchestra announced Monday that its streaming service and app will host air live, real-time streams of six concerts from its upcoming 2024-25 season. Adella, named for the orchestra's founder Adella Prentiss Hughes, will also stream nine "digital premieres" of previously recorded TCO performances along with "exclusive behind-the-scenes features and interviews with guest artists and TCO musicians," the orchestra said in a press release.
Adella's "Live From Severance" series begins on TCO's opening weekend, with a live airing of the 3 p.m. matinee performance of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6, “Pathétique” on Sunday, Sept. 22. The performance will be conducted by longtime music director Franz Welser-Möst. Also featured on the program is Prokofiev's First Symphony and a performance of Robert Schumann's Violin Concerto led by soloist Frank Peter Zimmermann.
The Adella premieres of previous concerts began Tuesday with an airing of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 4 as performed by The Cleveland Orchestra last December. In a new digital program titled "In our Hands," British guest conductor Daniel Harding "takes a stroll from Severance Music Center to the Cleveland Museum of Art to view Gustav Mahler’s complete, handwritten score of the monumental Second Symphony" before he "contemplates the distinct beauty of the composer’s Fourth Symphony and his profound connection to the composer’s work, as well as the privilege of holding, performing, and sharing such timeless masterpieces with the audience," program materials from the orchestra read.
The livestreams and digital premieres are available through an Adella Premium subscription, which costs $14.99 per month or $119.99 per year. Cleveland Orchestra subscribers get a discounted annual subscription at the rate of $80 per year.
