CLEVELAND — Just in time for the start of the Tokyo Olympics, we bring you our version of sporting excellence here at 3News. Recently, our hosts and personalities from "What's New" came together in teams of two for three "grueling" events.
Yes, it was the "What's New" Olympics for Throwdown Thursday!
The Blue Team consisted of:
- What's New host and team captain - Jay Crawford
- Digital reporter - Kierra Cotton
- Senior producer - Monique Zappa
The Red Team featured:
- What's New host, 3News Chief Meteorologist, and team captain - Betsy Kling
- Digital anchor - Stephanie Haney
- Meteorogist - Matt Wintz
And yours truly served as the referee for the games! (thanks to Mike Polk Jr. for lending me the uniform)
The first event was a track and field-style relay with our athletes running backwards in and out of cones. The winning team received five points.
Event number two was the beanbag toss with 1-3 points up for grabs on each attempt!
Finally, we put our athletes on top of makeshift scooters and had them move up and down our driveway in a head-to-head race for five points.
Just a hint: The end was not without controversy!!!
