We finally know "what's inside" Playhouse Square's Hanna Theater coming this summer!
On Monday, officials with the Cleveland theater district announced that Sara Bareilles' hit musical "Waitress" will return to Northeast Ohio for a surprise five-week run at the Hanna Theater in late May.
The announcement marks a full-circle moment as Cleveland helped to launch the first-ever tour of the musical back in 2017 at the Connor Palace.
The story follows Jenna, a waitress at a small-town diner, navigating an unexpected pregnancy and a shocking love affair all while dreaming of getting out of her lifestyle by using her creative, delicious, and sometimes hilariously named homemade pies.
The 550-seat Hanna Theater will create a more intimate environment for the show, which Playhouse Square officials say "presents the show’s original creative team with the opportunity to enhance aspects of the production to create an even more enveloping experience for audiences."
While the musical is currently out on tour, Playhouse Square's engagement is part of a brand new equity run including just two cities - Cleveland and Charlotte, North Carolina.
“The return of Waitress as a Huntington Bank Featured performance will serve up an especially sweet experience for our audiences this summer,” enthused Playhouse Square CEO Gina Vernaci.
Pre-sale tickets for donors will go on sale Tuesday, Feb. 8, and season ticket holders will have access beginning on Monday, Feb. 21. General public tickets will be available on Wednesday, March 2.
The announcement comes off of the show's final performances on Broadway at the end of 2021.
Casting has yet to be announced for the run.
