Streetsboro firefighters act quickly to save ducklings from sewer

A bystander called them after noticing the mama duck calling out in a high-traffic area of the city.

STREETSBORO, Ohio — A mama duck called out to a resident in Streetsboro, after her ducklings fell down a sewer grate, prompting that resident to call the fire department.

The resident noticed the mother duck in distress along a busy stretch of State Route 303 in Streetsboro, so that person reached out to the fire department to get the mother duck and her babies some help.

Firefighters quickly showed up on scene, pried off the grate, climbed down into the sewer and then documented the tiny ducklings being rescued, later posting the photos on their Facebook page. They said it was all in a days' work.

The fire department said that no units were taken out of service, and they completed the rescue quickly and efficiently. The post also pointed out that mama duck and babies were happily reunited, going off on their way.

Reaction to the post was completely positive. Amy Grau-blank posted, "You guys are amazing thank you for taking your time to save those babies."

Michelle Weiland Pedro posted, "great job Streetsboro FD!!!!"

And Tracy Pewton posted, "You guys are the BEST!! Thank you for helping them!!!"
