CLEVELAND — The votes are in!
After a public contest to help choose the names of the tiger cubs recently born at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, the final results have been revealed...
The public has chosen Mila for the girl and Sergei for the boy. It comes after the public had the option to vote between Mila, Karina and Anoushka for the girl and Ivan, Boris and Sergei for the boy.
The Cleveland Zoo says the money raised during the naming contest will be used "to help combat illegal wildlife trade, which has threatened the species towards extinction."
Both tigers were born at the zoo last year on Nov. 6 to mom, Zoya, and dad, Hector.
"Amur tigers have been deemed an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), with only a few hundred tigers remaining in their native regions of far eastern side of Russia and northeastern China," zoo officials noted in a press release.
