GRAFTON, Ohio — The Friendship Animal Protective League (APL) of Lorain County reports that 88 live animals were seized from a Grafton farm on Tuesday amid neglect concerns.
According to the Friendship APL, one of its humane agents obtained a warrant to search the farm that was "suspected of unsanitary conditions and medical neglect."
The Lorain County Sheriff's Office and Friendship APL staff teamed up to execute the warrant, seizing pigs, goats, dogs, chickens, ducks and rabbits over the course of five hours. Dead animals were also removed from the property, according to Friendship APL.
Friendship APL reports that the 88 saved animals are currently in protective custody through their organization.
The case is under investigation and being reviewed for potential prosecution. The next step, according to the Friendship APL, will be a probable cause hearing in Elyria Municipal Court.
During the warrant execution, Friendship APL officials say they were assisted by other local rescues, including Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary, Inc. and Whispering Acres Farm Animal Sanctuary.
