CLEVELAND — I was fixing lunch in my kitchen this week when I looked out the window and saw the sweetest little Goldfinch perched on a branch. But by the time I called to the girls, the bird had flown away.
We tried to go on a “bird watching excursion” on our walk, but we didn’t see any along a busy road.
So, we decided, maybe we can get the birds to come to us.
I found a simple and fun recipe to make bird feeders out of just seeds, gelatin and ribbon.
Here’s what you need:
- 2 cups bird seed mix
- 1 cup boiling water
- 2 packets of gelatin
- Cookie cutters
- Ribbon
First, boil the water (this should be for mom or dad only) and pour it into a mixing bowl. Stir in two packets of gelatin until it’s dissolved. Once it’s all mixed together, stir in the bird seed. Once it’s all coated, spoon the mixture into cookie cutters.
If you have a straw to cut up, place it in part of the bird feeder so you have a hole for the ribbon. Then you’ll be able to hang it from a tree branch near your window.
Put the tray of cookie cutters in the refrigerator for a few hours, then let them dry out overnight.
The next morning, find a branch to hang your bird feeders and wait for your little feathered friends to show up!
