Mom Squad: Staying in time capsule

One day, we will look back on this time with our families and smile. Maureen Kyle shows us how to make a time capsule with your kids to hold onto the good memories.

CLEVELAND — There’s no doubt this has been tough on everyone. Major milestones are being missed and big events are cancelled.

But hopefully, in the future, we’ll look back on all the little things and think of this time as “special” in some way.

A few weeks ago, I started collecting the drawings my girls made. I had them write down what they loved about being home, what they missed about being out and about and what activity they liked most.

It was heartbreaking when they wrote down that they missed their friends the most.

It was validating when they wrote down that they loved making a baking soda volcano in the kitchen.

As I wrapped the Time Capsule in wrapping paper, I told the girls we’ll open it back up in 10 years so we can remember what we did during this time.

“10 years??” my oldest said, “I’ll be driving by then!”

Ugh.

That sentence made me realize how special this time truly is.

This is time we won’t get back – good and bad. And the good part of it is that we had family dinners every night. I got to make the kids breakfast every morning. I was around for every first word my youngest said and I had a hand in teaching them subjects in school.

So, as slow as these past few months has felt, I bet the next 10 years fly by.
