CLEVELAND — Since the weather is getting warmer, my kids are starting to remember the festivals and events that we usually take part in.
"Are we doing the bike race?" my daughter asked one day.
"No, I'm sorry but it's canceled this year," I told her.
Her eyes were full of devastation. She asked me if we could still do it if only a few people go. She asked if we could do our own bike race. She asked if she could still get her face painted.
Thanks to the power of the internet, I found an easy recipe for homemade face paint!
All it takes is:
1/2 cup of lotion
1/2 cup of cornstarch
2 tsp of oil (vegetable, coconut or baby oil)
A few drops of *washable* paints
We mixed together the lotion, cornstarch and oil. Then I divided the mixture up into four different bowls. We picked four different paints and mixed a few drops in.
I pulled their hair back, made them wear paint shirts -- and the #1 rule: Don't leave the bathroom!
The face paint was super light and washed right off. We used an old rag to wipe off the face paint and start all over again.
The girls spent about an hour painting their own faces, each other's faces and probably a little bit of the vanity counter top. But nothing stained.
Now, I'm guessing we have a new spring and summer tradition.
