How the Hot Mess Express is helping moms throughout Northeast Ohio

'It's just women going to other women's houses and helping them reset, whether it's cleaning, organizing. Sometimes we do yard work, meals, just different things.'

CLEVELAND — As moms, sometimes it’s hard to ask for help. But a local group of women is working to bring a judgment-free way to help those women who are struggling with the state of their home.

In comes the Hot Mess Express

“It's just women going to other women's houses and helping them reset, whether it's cleaning, organizing. Sometimes we do yard work, meals, just different things,” says Izzy Crislip of Hot Mess Express Northeast Ohio.

Founded only six months ago, the Northeast Ohio chapter of Hot Mess Express has already helped 22 women across four counties. Before-and-after photos of their efforts show clutter that was once piling up now gone.

Kishna Ricks, a mom of three, says the women of Hot Mess Express rescued her after she moved from out of state.

“I still have boxes that aren’t unpacked, and as you can imagine it can be overwhelming to move from another state to here and try to unpack and clean and have three children -- so I needed them.”

Missions are posted on the Hot Mess Express Northeast Ohio Facebook group. This is where volunteers and those in need of help can connect.

“It's such an amazing feeling,” says Lisa McCoy of Hot Mess Express Northeast Ohio. “Everyone has just been so thankful, even weeks after still messaging me, communicating with me, how it's been helpful for their day to day, how they've kept up with it and how it's really changed their lives.”

While asking for help can be hard, Ricks says it’s worth it.

“They're moms just like us. They understand life is overwhelming, and usually the house and yourself is last on the priority list. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Ask for help and you will receive it.”

The women of Hot Mess Express say they need volunteers. If you would like to assist them or if you are in need of their services, you can go to the Hot Mess Express Northeast Ohio chapter on Facebook.
