Human skeletal remains found in wooded area of Springfield Township: What police are saying

The remains were found by a resident who was gathering firewood near Mogadore Road and the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway.

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — Springfield Township police detectives are investigating human skeletal remains that were discovered on Friday, March 25.

Authorities announced Monday that the remains were found by a resident gathering firewood in a wooded area near Mogadore Road and the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway.

Police are working with the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office and the Mercyhurst University Department of Archaeology and Anthropology in identifying the remains.

Police say there were no obvious signs of a crime being committed at the location the remains were found. The investigation, however, is ongoing.

The Springfield Township Police Department is asking anyone who has information that can assist in the investigation to please call Detective Robert Scherer at 330-784-1609.
