CLEVELAND — A federal grand jury has indicted two Maple Heights teens on charges related to multiple Northeast Ohio carjackings that all too place on the same day last month.
Donteze Congress and Thomas J.D. Williams, both 18, are accused of stealing cars in Cuyahoga Falls, Solon, and Streetsboro back on Aug. 9. In two of the incidents, the suspects allegedly rammed into the victims' vehicle and pulled out guns after the victims attempted to survey the damage to their rear bumpers.
In the third incident, the victim told police Congress and Williams approached them after the two exited their vehicle and pulled their weapons before demanding keys, but the pair ended up fleeing without the car. Congress and Williams have since been identified and arrested.
Both suspects are charged with carjacking, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and aiding and abetting possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. In addition, Williams is charged with attempted carjacking and carrying a firearm during a crime of violence.
Officers from Solon, Cuyahoga Falls, Streetsboro, and Garfield Heights assisted the Department of Justice and FBI in the investigation. The case will be prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Peter E. Daly and Christopher J. Joyce.
