US Marshals arrest 2 murder suspects in Cleveland as part of 'Operation 216'

US Marshals have arrested 15 homicide suspects since 'Operation 216' began in August.

CLEVELAND — The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFT) announced the arrest of two suspects wanted for separate murders by the Cleveland Division of Police.

U.S. Marshals arrested an unnamed 17-year-old boy at a residence near the 2500 block of East 43rd Street in Cleveland Wednesday. He was identified as the suspect in the murder of 30-year-old Ryan Carlile. According to the release, the 17-year-old shot Carlile in an alley behind a gas station near West 73rd Street and Lorain Avenue on June 23, 2023.

Anthony Lewis, 37, was also arrested by NOVFT agents at a residence in the 46000 block of West 174th Street in Cleveland on Wednesday. He is accused of shooting and killing 37-year-old Lamar Petty in the yard of a house near the 18000 block of Fairville Avenue in Cleveland on Sunday, September 10.

Wednesday's arrests come as part of the ongoing "Operation 216" initiative with the city of Cleveland, according to U.S. Marshal Pete Elliot. As part of the initiative, members of the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force are focusing on targeted hot spots in the city of Cleveland. In addition, Operation 216 also includes an additional cold case investigator assigned to work on unsolved homicide cases ranging from two to three years old.  

Following Wednesday's arrests, Elliot said, “Today, the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested the 15th homicide suspect since the start of “Operation 2-1-6”, and now have arrested 2,186 homicide suspects since the inception of the task force in 2003. The dedication and commitment of the men and women of our NOVFTF making these arrests has been second to none. I am extremely proud of each and every one of the officers who risk their lives daily.”
