Man wanted for aggravated murder arrested in Euclid; becomes 13th murder suspect arrested as part of 'Operation 2-1-6'

The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force has arrested nearly 100 suspects as part of the 'Operation 2-1-6' initiative.

EUCLID, Ohio — The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) announced the arrest of the 13th murder suspect as part of the "Operation 2-1-6" initiative.

Alphonso Jones, 29, was wanted by Cleveland police for aggravated murder related to a shooting that took place on July 8, 2023.

Jones is accused of shooting 27-year-old Jonathan Lanum after a verbal altercation turned violent near a residence on the 13800 block of Earlwood Road in Cleveland. Lanum was rushed to University Hospitals where he was pronounced dead after suffering multiple gunshot wounds.

On Monday, September 11, Jones was arrested at an apartment near the 26100 block of Lakeshore Boulevard in Euclid.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “In the first four weeks of “Operation 2-1-6”, close to 100 fugitives have been arrested. These fugitives were wanted for violent offenses, often using a firearm in furtherance of the crime, including homicides, assaults and robberies.”
