Cuyahoga County grand jury indicts 3 teens after man shot in face during Cleveland Heights robbery

All three face charges of aggravated robbery, felonious assault, grand theft, and tampering with evidence. There is no current update on the victim's condition.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — A Cuyahoga County grand jury has indicted three teens connected to a Cleveland Heights robbery that left a man badly injured.

Eighteen-year-old Rayshaun Hickman along with 19-year-olds Keshon Fussell Johnson and Dannel Mason all face charges of aggravated robbery, felonious assault, grand theft, and tampering with evidence. Mason also faces an additional charge of receiving stolen property.

Prosecutors say the trio were waiting inside the Heights Garden Apartments on Cleveland Heights Boulevard on Jan. 21 when they saw the 21-year-old victim pull into the parking lot just before 5:45 p.m. An argument ensued between the victim and one of the suspects, with the second suspect pulling a gun out and the third running toward the commotion.

After one of the teens grabbed something from the car, he and one of his alleged accomplices tried to run away before waiting for the third suspect. The victim then began to drive away before that third teen fired his own gun, hitting the victim in the face.

Police later found the victim and he was taken by ambulance to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. He was placed in the ICU and there is no update on his current condition.

All three suspects were arrested within days of the shooting with the help of the area EDGE SWAT Team. They have since been held on bond in the Cuyahoga County Jail.

"The citizens of Cleveland Heights should be proud of the work of their police department," County Prosecutor Michael C. O'Malley said in a statement. "They quickly apprehended these individuals and now they will face the consequences of their actions."

Arraignment dates for Hickman, Johnson, and Mason have not been announced.
