AKRON, Ohio — A Summit County grand jury has indicted 26-year-old Stacy Martin in connection with a fatal shooting in Akron last month.

According to the indictment, Martin has been charged with the following in relation to the death of 20-year-old Elijah Jones on Aug. 10:

  • Voluntary manslaughter, with a three-year firearm specification
  • Having weapons while under disability
  • Tampering with evidence
  • Obstructing justice
  • Trafficking in marijuana

Martin is scheduled to be arraigned in the Summit County Court of Common Pleas on Oct. 7.

According to the Akron Police Department, officers responded to a shooting in the 1800 block of Coventry Street at 11:25 p.m. and found Jones in front of a home suffering from a gunshot wound. Jones was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Police took Martin into custody shortly after the shooting. He was initially charged with murder, tampering with evidence, weapons under disability and "other related charges," police said.

He is currently being held on a $1 million bond.

According to investigators, the shooting was a result of "an altercation of some kind" between Martin and Jones. Investigators have sought to determine if other people were around the home when the shooting took place.
