AKRON, Ohio — An Akron man who was found guilty of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend's mother has been sentenced to life in prison.
A Summit County jury last month convicted Antonio Miller, 27, of multiple charges including aggravated murder for the death of 50-year-old Tina Case. On Monday, retired visiting Judge James Kimbler handed down Miller's punishment, ruling that he will be eligible for parole after 36 years behind bars.
Late in the evening of April 7, 2022, Akron police found Tina Case dead in the driver's seat of her car after being shot multiple times. In a statement issued the next morning, authorities said they believed "the suspect knew the victim and may have waited for her to return home before ambushing her as she pulled into the driveway" on Koerber Avenue in Kenmore.
Officials exclaimed they had identified a "person of interest," but it would be five months before Miller was arrested by police and U.S. Marshals at a home on Roslyn Avenue, with security camera video linking him to the crime. Miller and Case's daughter had been in a five-year on-and-off romantic relationship that ended just prior to Case's murder.
"Antonio Miller is a dangerous person who ambushed a beloved mother while she sat in her car," Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich said in a statement following today's sentencing. "He deserves to spend the rest of his life behind bars. My hope is today's sentence brings some justice and peace to Tina Case's family."
Besides the aggravated murder charge, Miller was also found guilty of two counts of murder and one count of felonious assault, all with gun specifications.
