AKRON, Ohio — The Akron Police Department is investigating a shooting that killed two men on Wednesday afternoon.
According to a release, the shooting happened at around 5 p.m. in the 200 block of Cole Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 20-year-old man on a porch with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
The man, identified as Jaedin Eillis, was transported to Summa Health Akron City Hospital by ambulance in critical condition and later died as a result of his injuries.
A second man, 32-year-old Rickie Brooks, was found with a gunshot wound to the upper body. Brooks was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center by private auto. He was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
Investigators from the Akron Police Department believe there was a possible altercation leading up to the shooting, but the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown.
Detectives are also working to identify one or more additional subjects who may have been at the scene or in the area at the time of the shooting. The incident remains under investigation.
