Akron Police investigating after man found shot to death in backyard

Police say they do not have any suspects in the shooting.

Akron Police detectives are investigating after a man was found shot to death in a backyard Monday night.

Police say they responded to the area of 23rd St. S.W. and Florida Ave. after several calls to dispatch reporting gunshots. Officers searched that area upon arrival and found the victim, a 28-year-old man, dead in the backyard of a residence in the 2200 block of 24th St. S.W. The victim had apparently suffered several gunshot wounds. The unknown suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy. The victim's name is being withheld until the family can make positive identification, and so they can be notified.

Police do not have any suspects in the shooting. No arrests have been made, and police say there is no further information available at this time. This is the 23rd homicide in the city of Akron this year.
