AKRON, Ohio — One week after 21-year-old Ahmad Alibrahim was killed during a late-night shooting at the Borders Drive Thru in the 1300 block of South Arlington Street in Akron, authorities say they have arrested a suspect in the case.
26-year-old Da’Quan Mar’Ta Isaac was captured Tuesday in the 700 block of Hazel Street in Akron by members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, according to the U.S. Marshals.
Akron police previously reported that officers responded to the scene of the shooting around 11:15 p.m. on Dec. 16 where Alibrahim was found with an apparent gunshot wound to the neck.
Akron police say preliminary information showed a suspect approached the drive thru on foot and attempted to purchase a black and mild cigar.
"The suspect reportedly handed the employee a bill in poor and unacceptable condition," according to Akron police. "The suspect then began arguing with the clerk, produced the firearm and demanded the cigar. The employee then gave the suspect the item and asked him to leave. Before doing so, the suspect fired at least two shots at the group of employees inside the establishment, striking the victim."
Alibrahim was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Akron police detectives did an outstanding job in quickly identifying the suspect,” U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated. “This is one of the most senseless murders in our community. We will not let fugitives like this roam the streets.”
