CLEVELAND — Two people who are facing charges connected to the shooting death of Cleveland Det. James Skernivitz were in court Thursday for arraignment.
24-year-old Brittany Cremeans and 27-year-old Antonio Darby are both accused of obstructing justice and tampering with evidence. A judge set bond for both at $5,000 each and both are still currently being held at the Cuyahoga County Jail, with a pretrial hearing set for next Thursday.
Three teens are also charged directly with Skernivitz's murder in the case – including 19-year-old David McDaniel, who is being held on $3 million bond after pleading not guilty. Two other teens – both under the age of 18 – have also been charged.
Skernivitz, 53, was killed last month during a shooting in the area of West 65th Street and Storer Avenue. 50-year-old Scott Dingess, who was there as an informant, was also killed.
“Detective Skernivitz was assigned to the Gang Impact Unit and was recently sworn in as a Violent Crimes Task Force officer with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, working on the national law enforcement initiative Operation Legend,” authorities said in a press release.
His funeral was held inside Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on Sept. 11. You can watch his service in the player below:
