CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — Back on Dec. 28 shortly after 4 a.m., Cleveland Heights police responded to a call of a man shot in the 3200 block of Berkeley Road.
When officers arrived, they found 38-year-old Kevin Mathews laying in a hallway inside the home. Mathews appeared to have been shot several times, and police administered first aid until EMS arrived.
Mathews was taken to University Hospitals for treatment. He later died Jan. 9.
Police say preliminary investigation indicates that unknown people arrived at the home, and began shooting once inside. Four other people were inside the home, but none of them were hurt.
Two people have been charged so far. Emari Chambers, 22, has been charged with Obstructing Justice and is out of jail on bond. Samuel Thomas, 24, has been charged with Felonious Assault, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Receiving Stolen Property and Improper Handling of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle. He is in the Cuyahoga County Jail.
Additional charges are pending against Thomas since Mathews has passed away.
